Which is why, even two decades later, Sid continues to be one of the best on-screen heroes Bollywood has ever seen. He gives you the feeling that if you poured your heart out to him, he’d hold your hand, give you a hug, and tell you that everything is going to be okay. Gone were the days of the loud, in-your-face man, and instead we had a kind, slightly reclusive Sid. So, when I watched Khanna’s Sid speak in a soft, calm voice, make art, and love selflessly, it changed the way I perceived a romantic hero. In some other movies, the ‘hero’ doesn’t bat an eyelid before resorting to violence and abusive behaviour to release his pent-up frustration and express his emotions. As a ’90s kid, I grew up on a staple diet of Bollywood movies that normalised the idea of a macho man who pursues (read stalks) and even harasses the woman till she gives in to his advances. ![]() ![]() Throughout the movie, what stood out for me was Sid’s quiet empathy for his friends, his friend’s ex, his mother, Tara, and everyone who crosses paths with him.
